The SDGs are the world’s most ambitious sustainable development agenda, adopted by UN member states in 2015. The SDGs aim to achieve four main things by 2030: eradicate extreme poverty, reduce inequalities and injustices, promote peace and justice, and solve the climate crisis. This represents a joint action plan to create a better and more sustainable world for all.
The 17 goals are universal, integrated and indivisible – success is needed in all areas to achieve true sustainable development. The objectives cover the three dimensions of sustainability: environmental, social and economic sustainability. This holistic approach to sustainability is key, where no dimension can be developed at the expense of another, and where no one should be left behind in the move towards a more sustainable world.
